Read This...™ When I'm Dead Presentation
Wednesday, August 17, 2016, 2PM
Heritage Activity Center, Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS
“Read this... When I’m Dead”
As we presented the 3 part series on “Medicine, Me and My World”, the question of how to start conversations, or how do I pass along my wishes and other information to my family and friends continued to be asked. And as luck would have it and timing is everything , I received a call one day from a Christy Howard who was giving a presentation about a book that she and her friend wrote that dealt with such issues. She invited me to attend. I quickly agreed and took Quentin with me to a truly delightful evening listening to Christy and her co-author Annie Presley. Immediately I knew they needed to come to Lakeview and speak to our residents.
Christy and Annie bring a lighthearted, funny and sweet approach to addressing our end of life wishes, not only in the book, but when you hear them talk about their experiences and life stories that inspired the writing of this book. Through a special arrangement, they will have books available to purchase at the time of the event. I already know that I will be giving this book as gifts to many of my family members.
In addition to the presentation from the ladies, we will also be addressing another question that kept coming up during our series and that was funeral options– what are they?. So you might be thinking all of this is so morbid, but truly it is merely equipping you with information so that you can make informed decisions. No pressure and without fear, you can learn about the choices that are available and what is necessary and/or required. It will not be a sales pitch but just good old fashioned facts. I mean we’re all in this boat together, so let’s paddle it right!
I look forward to seeing you at the double header presentation on Wednesday, August 17th at 2:00 p.m. in the Heritage Activity Center.

"Read this When I am Dead"
Annie Presley founded McKellar Group in 1993 after selling her first business, Legal Assistance Inc. in 1989. Throughout her career, AP dabbled in high-octane politics including a successful career as National Deputy Finance Director at Bush for President in Austin, Texas during the 2000 campaign. Following the campaign, she served as Vice President and Director of Government Affairs and Charitable Giving at UBS in New York City. Homesick as a result of the terrorist attacks on 9/11, she returned to Kansas City in 2004 and revitalized McKellar as a consulting entity highlighting new lobbying skills and utilizing Wall Street financial tools.
By 2014, she and a friend launched ACE Publishing LLC and published their first book, “Read This…When I’m Dead.” She now devotes herself to ACE full time with a second book “Read This…On Our Anniversary” now available and a third in draft. A series of children’s books about their family dog Sam, is currently being illustrated.
Christy Howard’s career has ranged from practicing law at a large firm in Kansas City (Gage and Tucker, which later became Lathrop and Gage) to working at Hallmark in finance, risk management, marketing and human resources. She coauthored her first book in the late 1990’s – The Environmental Due Diligence Handbook published by Government Institutes. Although she left Hallmark fulltime to raise her daughter, she remained on-call for special projects for nearly 10 years.
Christy found her true calling doing humanitarian work around the world beginning in 2012 with Children International. In her position as Director of Corporate Communications for Children International, she spoke to groups at the United Nations on behalf of impoverished children and met with government officials in countries as far away as Zambia. She traveled the globe and saw first-hand how hard children and their families strive to escape the relentless traps of poverty. Christy continues her commitment to help children and youth raise their voices and participate in the new post-millennium development goals in association with the groups she worked with at the UN.

The climate for Planned Giving is as great today as it has been in quite some time.
It was projected that nearly $20 Trillion transferred from one generation to the next in 2014.
Yet it is also estimated that only 10% of current donors have provided for charity through their estate plans.
Why? Primarily because of a lack of institutional focus on Planned Giving and understanding just how beneficial Planned Giving can be to both the donor and the organization.
